Abstract
Medical images in healthcare are one of the most important diagnostic
tools, regardless of whether they are created by simple X-ray systems
or complex magnetic resonance imaging units. They are the beginning and
reference points for nearly all medical-related activities in hospitals
and other medical stations. It is therefore very important to achieve
the best image quality, which will allow the most accurate picture to
be viewed by the radiologist. First, we need to understand how the
human visual system works, then determine which technical features are
available via the display system and which display properties are
critical to image quality. This helps in selecting the most appropriate
display for medical applications. Costs and medical standards also need
to be considered, as well as how the image quality can be adjusted and
controlled. Additionally, the life-time costs of the system and the
image quality behaviour over time should be part of the consideration.
