Precision and color accuracy

High-contrast, bright and crisp screen

Suitable for softproofing

The EIZO CG2420 fulfills strict softproof requirements based on the ISO 12646 standard. Fogra Forschungsgesellschaft Druck e.V. came to that conclusion in the course of testing the monitor. The CG2420 was therefore awarded the Fogra "FograCert Softproof Monitor" seal of quality. You will therefore be working on a tested, color-proof monitor.

Outstandingly sharp image quality

The monitor has an impressive top resolution (1920 x 1200), a very good contrast ratio of 1500:1 and a brightness of 400 cd/m². For example, you can edit graphics and images down to the pixel. As an added benefit, text contours are clear and precise. The LCD panel with the IPS (Wide Gamut) panel allows for a viewing angle of 178 degrees. Ensuring that hue and contrast remain stable for the viewer.

Vivid colours in line with industry standards

Wide Gamut

The wide-gamut monitor reliably reproduces 98% of the DCI P3 standard used in digital cinema and also supports the Rec. 2020 standard.

The CG2420 also covers 99% of the Adobe RGB gamut. When images recorded in RAW format are converted to AdobeRGB, the monitor reproduces these with absolute colour fidelity. The EIZO monitor also offers great advantages for printing: It covers almost the entire CMYK gamut (ISO coated and U.S. Web Coated, for example). You see the later print result on screen and save yourself the proof stage.

Color depth for plastic images

True Black

With its high contrast ratio, the CG2420 displays deep blacks, which often look pale or washed out on a typical LCD monitor due to the backlight. This is especially true when viewing the monitor from the side in dimly lit rooms. The CG series is equipped with a retardation film for this purpose, which allows for this depth of blacks even at wide viewing angles.

Precision-color_TrueBlack.jpg

Integrated sensor for self-calibration

An integrated calibration sensor ensures you achieve maximum colour accuracy. The sensor is perfectly aligned to the monitor, takes environmental influences such as light into account, and correlates the centre of the image with the edge of the image. This ensures an even result over the whole monitor. The sensor is located in the bezel and is only extended when performing measurements. This means that no external calibration device is necessary, and the colour fidelity of the monitor is optimal at all times.

You can use the ColorNavigator software or the on-screen menu to determine when you want monitor calibration to take place automatically. For example, you can schedule calibration to take place during your lunch break or overnight, with no PC connection required.

Exemplary image

EIZO software for fast calibration and printing

Good image processing is only possible on well-calibrated monitors. The usual software calibration takes a long time and requires the user to have a certain level of technical expertise. The CG2420 is supplied with ColorNavigator hardware calibration software. With ColorNavigator, you can perform calibration quickly, easily, and with excellent colour precision: During calibration, the software directly accesses and saves to the look-up-table in the monitor hardware. You determine the relevant components such as white balance, gamma, brightness, and tone value curve according to your requirements. Calibration then runs automatically based on the default set during production and is therefore unique in terms of precision and speed. This also means that calibration can be performed by users in just a few steps, with no need for in-depth technical knowledge. Because the calibration takes place via the monitor hardware, it is performed without loss and independently of the computer and graphics board. The CG2420 can also be smoothly integrated into an existing system.

The free Quick Color Match software helps users, even without in-depth expertise in colour management, to see on the monitor how their images will look when printed on their Canon or Epson inkjet printer at home. In this way, the images can be optimised for the special properties of the selected photo paper even before printing, which helps users avoid expensive misprints.

Smooth and fluid transitions and gradients thanks to 16-bit LUT and 10-bit mode

The LUT (look-up-table) on the CG2420 employs internal calculations with 16 bits for an extremely high colour depth and outputs the signals with up to 10 bits. This provides billions of hues for calculating the precise monitor display, effectively preventing display errors caused by the monitor such as banding or clipping, which can result in tonal breaks in gradients or unnecessary colours in greyscale. Even fine nuances and structures in dark or highly saturated areas of the image can be displayed in a differentiated and detailed manner.

Ready to use right out of the box

Perfect settings right from the factory

Every ColorEdge CG2420 is individually measured and optimally configured in the factory, enabling it to be used immediately after it has been unboxed. To this end, the gamma curves for the red, green and blue channels are closely checked and corrected, if necessary. This unique EIZO factory calibration enables the user to start using the monitor with the preset gamut range right out of the box. This painstaking calibration at the factory ensures that the user can quickly recalibrate the monitor if needed using ColorNavigator.

Precision-color_Factory-calibration.jpg

Perfect rendering across the entire screen

Digital Uniformity Equalizer

Each individual monitor panel is precisely measured over the entire surface at the EIZO factory. Any inhomogeneities in brightness and unnecessary colour are detected and removed. This process (Digital Uniformity Equalizer) guarantees that identical colours always look the same across the entire surface of the monitor, no matter where they are displayed. Only in this way is precise image processing and retouching possible.

Calibration report

Each ColorEdge CG2420 comes with an individual calibration report that shows the measurement results of the factory calibration of the monitor. The report proves the homogeneity, gamma curve, colour space coverage and white point of the monitor.

Stable color reproduction in just seven minutes

It takes a traditional monitor a minimum of 30 minutes for the brightness, chromaticity and tone values to stabilise, whereas the ColorEdge CG2420 only needs seven minutes. It means that users know they can reliably trust the colours of the monitor within a short time after switching in on.

For optimized color reproduction

EIZO microchip

The CG2420 has a high-quality microchip (ASIC, Application-Specific Integrated Circuit), which EIZO developed especially for the special requirements involved in work demanding high colour accuracy. This microchip is the brain of a ColorEdge as it guarantees the precise, uniform and constant image display that is the hallmark of EIZO.

Ideal for video and film production: HDMI

Films are normally recorded at 24 fps. They therefore appear unnatural with the conventional monitor rendering of 60 Hz. The monitor supports an image frequency of 24 and 60 Hz. This means that you can view and edit your film material as it was taken.

HDMI signals with refresh rates of 60, 50, 30, 25 and 24 Hz are supported. The monitor also features I/P conversion.

Variety of ports

Best connectivity

One monitor, many ports

It doesn't get easier than this: You can connect most of your devices, such as PC, laptop or cameras directly to the monitor because the monitor hasa number of different ports. That makes your daily work easier.

Ergonomics

Working in a relaxed manner

For the sake of the eyes

Flicker free

The monitor is flicker-free at every brightness setting. This is great for users, as their eyes will not tire as quickly, allowing them to work in front of the screen for longer periods of time without fatigue.

Anti-glare coating: more image, less reflection

The CG2420 offers a perfect, non-glare surface. By minimising glare by diffusing the reflected light, the CG2420 effectively protects your eyes from straining. This keeps your eyes from getting as tired and allows you to sit comfortably in front of the monitor, without having to sit in a forced position to prevent glare.

Ergonomics_Anti-glare.png

Ergonomic stand

Our screens offer continuous height adjustment. Depending on the model, they can even be lowered to the base plate of the stand. This guarantees the best possible ergonomics, regardless of whether the user is sitting or standing in front of the screen. You can also swivel, rotate and tilt the monitor base to the position that is most comfortable for your posture.

The CG2420 can also be rotated into the portrait format, which is a great advantage for tethered shoots of people in the portrait mode, for example.

FAQs

An integrated calibration sensor governs the maximum color accuracy. It positions itself automatically for calibration and then conceals itself in the safety of the casing until the next measurement is taken. Each monitor is exactly coordinated using its sensor. For example, the measurement location is correlated with the middle of the image at the upper edge of the image so that the sensor takes measurements as if it were in the middle of the image. This integrated solution rules out the variability, which may arise when using external measuring devices. Even the influences of ambient light are determined when initiating the sensor and considered during calibration.

All about monitor calibration

Devices with an integrated calibration sensor are able to perform calibration without the help of the user. The computer does not even need to be switched on. When programmed once, the calibration will start at night, during the lunch break, or at other, definable times. It is easy to program using the ColorNavigator or the on-screen menu.

All about monitor calibration

You can also use EIZO ColorEdge monitors with HDR support under macOS.

Read the detailed answer here.

The EIZO ColorNavigator software can be used to calibrate and profile ColorEdge-LCD monitor hardware. IMPORTANT: Please do not use an alternative calibration software, which may not be able to use the hardware function of ColorEdge LCD monitors.

To keep your monitor looking like new at all times and to prolong the service life of your device, we recommend cleaning it regularly. Clean the casing and LCD surface as described below:

IMPORTANT: Never use thinner, benzene, alcohol (ethanol, methanol or isopropyl alcohol), scouring agents or other strong solvents as these may damage the casing and the LCD display.

Casing
Remove marks by wiping the casing with a soft cloth, which you have previously moistened with a mild cleaning agent. Never spray wax or cleaning agents directly on to the casing. (The manual contains exact details.)

LCD display
Where necessary, the monitor surface may be cleaned using a soft cloth (for example a cotton cloth or glasses cloth). Stubborn marks can generally be removed by wetting the cloth with a bit of water to increase the cleaning strength.

EIZO offers different versions of the ColorNavigator software. They are compatible with Windows or Mac operating systems.

Details about the supported operating systems can be found here.

During the calibration by the user, the desired white point and gamma curve are transferred to the gray scale through a combination of measurements and calculations. This process is typical at EIZO as it saves time and is more precise than the measurements of several tone values with conventional manual measuring devices, which are prone to errors. The accuracy of the factory calibration with sensitive laboratory measuring equipment serves as a secure foundation in this regard.

All about monitor calibration

Homogeneous luminance distribution and good color purity are key to achieving very accurate image rendering. The Digital Uniformity Equalizer (DUE) circuit takes care of this. It automatically corrects non-uniformities in terms of luminance and chrominance for all tone values across the entire image area – pixel by pixel.

When it comes to color accuracy when working, how well a monitor can differentiate between color tones is of fundamental importance. To achieve the maximum color depth and prevent the formation of stripes, banding, and washing, EIZO relies on the ultimate perfection: a 16 bit look-up table (LUT) ensures precise color resolution, meaning that even the finest structures in darker areas of the image are reproduced so that they are absolutely accurate in every detail.

In connection with a frame rate control (FRC) of the LCD modules, CG monitors allow for 10 bit color resolution, depending on the module. Screens can therefore display even the finest tone value gradations using a billion colors. This requires corresponding 10 bit support by the application software and graphics card.

Warranty

EIZO provides up to a five-year warranty, although some devices have a different warranty period. You can find out the exact warranty periods for each product either in the warranty terms and conditions above, in the datasheet, or on the EIZO international website. The long warranty periods are made possible by a highly developed manufacturing process based on a simple principle of success: sophisticated and innovative monitor technology, manufactured from high-end materials. For you, the 5-year warranty means a high level of investment security and savings on follow-up costs (total cost of ownership), which would be incurred without warranty service, for example, for maintenance and repairs.

  • Innovative service concept from EIZO, which sets standards and meets the trend towards longer depreciation periods. Safety that convinces and you can count on.
  • First-class material and careful processing provide for the extraordinary longevity and make so long guarantee durations possible.
  • Follow-up costs that would be incurred without warranty service, e.g. for maintenance and repairs, are avoided and lead to optimized cost transparency (Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
